Under the direction of civil engineer Julius W. Adams, the viaduct’s design incorporated 17 stone arches, each spanning 50 feet and rising 110 feet above the valley floor. The use of locally sourced Pennsylvania bluestone and Vermont granite for its construction, while significantly increasing the project’s cost (exceeding $320,000 at the time), ensured the bridge’s longevity and resilience.
